Since I had nowhere to be except back in freezing cold D.C., I took a few hours to explore the city on my own yesterday, which is my ideal way to take in a new place. I spent a couple days in Savannah years ago, but this trip made me fall in love with the city.
My recommendations for a weekend in Savannah? Cocktails at The Grey, which is an old Greyhound bus station that has been turned into a restaurant. I can't get enough of mid-century decor and design, and this place is perfection. Dinner at the Tavern at the Olde Pink House, a (very) dimly lit basement with warm, delicious food and an atmosphere that is pulled straight from a long gone era. Finish out the weekend with brunch at Soho South—the bloody mary's are thick and spicy, but keep in mind they don't serve them before 12:30 PM so don't get there too early!
