Summer Tunics

Last Friday I was in the mood for a low key evening so I had dinner at Rocklands (since I was also interested in gaining 5 lbs in one meal) and then went down to Georgetown to see a movie. The lack of movies that I actually want to see this summer is depressing and we decided that the only movie that looked remotely worth going to was The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel. While my expectations were not very high for a movie about elderly people that move to India to outsource their retirement, it actually was an enjoyable two hours and absolutely worth seeing. It features a cast of older British actors who were all wonderful, including Judi Dench and Bill Nighy. Not to mention, Dev Patel was adorable.

If you’re not already on the tunic bandwagon before seeing this movie, you will definitely jump right on it after. Seeing these women stay cool in the sweltering heat of India makes our 90 degree days in Washington look like nothing. Here are some of my favorite tunics this summer:

I love the bright colors in this J.McLaughlin tunic and the contrast between the oranges and pink in the tunic and the light blue at the collar banding.
This is a great tunic/cover-up from Old Navy that I got for a steal over Memorial Day weekend ($10!!) It goes perfectly with my navy J.Crew one piece. I couldn’t find it online anymore, but I’m sure it’s still in stores.
This white tunic from Target is a bargain at $29.99 and is such a classic piece that you’ll wear all spring and summer whether it’s with colored denim, white pants, or jean shorts. It would also look great with dark denim on early spring days.
